STASIAS Gallery, originally founded in Chicago, USA in 2023, expanded its presence to Shanghai in 2024 under name “Ivory Gate Gallery” while maintaining its core philosophy. As a distinguished gallery, we are committed to discovering and promoting exceptional international and emerging contemporary artists. Our mission centers around nurturing artists’ growth and creativity, collaborating closely with emerging talents to curate thought-provoking exhibitions. We meticulously select the most courageous artists who push the boundaries of contemporary art. Their outstanding and thoughtful works converge within our gallery, creating an interconnected and dynamic space. Beyond being merely an exhibition venue, STASIAS Gallery serves as a platform for sharing experiences, stories and building sustainable connection between East and West art world.
The exhibition offers a reflection on deeply rooted feelings of isolation and how one may find meaning or unease in their solitary pursuits. The paired artists both work with or against the subjects of solitude, isolation, and loneliness but work towards opposing ends. Davis, seemingly working to revel in solitude and make use of the isolation he see’s as an inherent part of his medium. McGarvey, instead, working to counter his feelings of loneliness by drawing
deep connections between his person and spirit to his larger environment. The two both have a deep love of science. Seeing it as either an exciting product of boredom and curiosity or a useful insight into the connections an individual has to the world at large. For them, working is a daily pursuit to escape either into or out of solitude. In their practices, the sun never sets.
